    01. 1926 — 2026 100th Anniversary of the
Publication of The Silence of My Beloved

The Silence of My Beloved by Manhae Han Yong-un was first published in 1926.
A hundred years later, in 2026, NIRVA seeks to go beyond simply reading poetry as text,
creating a cultural connection where Manhae’s literature and spirit can be heard through music,
carried in everyday life, and experienced anew through a contemporary sensibility.

    02. MANHAE HAN YONG-UN

Poet, Buddhist Monk, and Independence Activist

Manhae Han Yong-un was a poet and Buddhist monk
who remained steadfast in his convictions through the challenges of his time.

As one of the 33 national representatives of the March 1st Independence Movement,
he took part in the Declaration of Independence and devoted himself to the independence movement,
including the Singanhoe movement, as well as to the reform of Korean Buddhism.

Moving across the worlds of literature, religion, and the independence movement,
he was a figure who lived by the convictions he believed in.

    03. The Silence of My Beloved
A Heart That Remains After Parting

“My beloved has gone. Ah, my beloved whom I love has gone.”

One of Han Yong-un’s most celebrated works,
the poem begins with separation and loss and moves toward the hope of reunion.

Beyond a beloved person, the idea of the “beloved” carries many meanings,
embracing the homeland, ideals, and all that one holds dear.

    04. The Ferryboat and the Traveler

“I am the ferryboat / You are the traveler.”
Through the relationship between a ferryboat and a traveler,
the poem portrays waiting, sacrifice, and devoted love.

Introduced to generations through school textbooks and literary education,
it remains one of Manhae’s most widely recognized works.
